The bitter orange tree, also known as sour orange or Andalusian orange, is named for the custom in Andalusia of planting this citrus fruit along its streets to enjoy the visual and aromatic delight it provides when in bloom. The essential oil from its fruits is commonly used in the food and perfume industries. One of its flowers gives us the essential oil known as "Neroli," a delight for lovers of this aromatic flower. Finally, the essential oil known as bitter orange or petitgrain is extracted from the steam distillation of its leaves, used in both food and perfume.
