The Solgar Cherry and Turmeric Complex combines cherry and turmeric, along with several other plant-based products. Cherry, also known as sour or dwarf cherry, is native to Southwest Asia and Europe. There are two species of cherries, sweet cherry (Prunus avio) and sour cherry (Prunus cerasus). Both are edible, and especially sweet cherries have been consumed since prehistoric times. This special formula contains the equivalent of 540 mg of Prunus cerasus cherry fruit.
The active substances in turmeric include flavonoids, called curcuminoids, which are the principles produced by plants. Originally from Southwest Asia, turmeric belongs to the ginger family, with a long history of use in Ayurvedic culture. The daily dose provides the equivalent of 720 mg of turmeric root, Curcuma longa.
Additionally, this formula also takes advantage of the properties of different plant-based products added. Ginger, Zingiber officinale, is a plant from the turmeric family. The equivalent of 450 mg of ginger root is added to the formula.
Quercetin is a non-citrus bioflavonoid that works in conjunction with vitamin C. Bioflavonoids are naturally present in fruits, vegetables, and plants and are a class of phytochemicals. Quercetin in this formula comes from Dimorphandra mollis.
Cayenne pepper has been used for millennia in herbal medicine for its capsaicin content, which is a phytochemical. Black pepper is one of the most commonly used spices, believed to have properties beyond flavoring food. In this formula, black pepper extract, Piper nigrum, is presented as a patented Bioperine®.
