Biotin is a B-complex vitamin also known as vitamin H. It is a water-soluble vitamin produced directly by intestinal bacteria. It acts on maintaining or improving the health of hair, skin, and nails: for hair, it increases elasticity and thickness, provides a good level of scalp hydration, and prevents hair loss; for nails, it increases keratin production favoring growth and strengthening; for skin, it promotes hydration and regeneration. Deficiency in this vitamin can cause dry and scaly skin, seborrhea, and anorexia in adults; in children under 6 months, symptoms include seborrheic dermatitis and hair loss.
